Why are there fewer doctors now at Newberg Veterinary Hospital?

Newberg Veterinary Hospital has been open since the 1970s. Over the years, we’ve grown the practice to a high of 9 vets at one time. 5 of the practicing doctors have all been here for over 20 years. It is time for some retirements. We had some younger docs that we had hoped would continue on, but they have moved out of state for personal reasons. We’ve been working to hire other doctors for replacement but as you may have heard, there is a veterinarian and support staff shortage. There are many reasons for this industry-wide issue, but it makes it challenging to find new doctors to add to the practice.

We have been actively recruiting to the practice for quite some time and hope to fill the vacancies as soon as we can with qualified doctors. In the meantime, we are using relief doctors to help us offer more appointment availability as well.

Will staffing changes affect any appointments I have currently scheduled?

No. Should any changes be necessary, we will contact you directly.

Why is it difficult to get an appointment?

As we have fewer doctors, there are fewer appointments available and we cannot forecast when future doctors will start. You are welcome to keep reaching out to us to see when we open up more availability. And, stay tuned to the website, as we add doctors we will open up more appointments and will keep the web site updated with changes.

Are you accepting new patients?

At this time, we are not accepting new patients until we can make more appointments available.

What should I do if my pet needs to be seen and there are no appointments available?

Please call us to see if we can help that day. If not, please make sure you know where your closest urgent care veterinary clinic is, or if it is an emergency, where the closest ER vet is to you.

Do you see Urgent cares or emergencies?

We will help as best we can when time allows during our available hours. Please call us to see how we can help. If we are not available, please make sure you know where your closest urgent care veterinary clinic is, or if it is an emergency, where the closest ER vet is to you.

How do I order a refill on my prescription?

Visit: Newberg Veterinary Hospital · Rx

What do I do if my prescription is declined because my exam is not current?

We are able to refill prescriptions with a valid current exam. If the medication is medically necessary we may able to provide you a refill and book an appointment for a future date to make sure your pet does not go without necessary medication.

When do you expect to have more appointments available?

We will continue to do our best to provide appointments as we can, but at this time we cannot predict when that will be as it depends on hiring and/or relief veterinary ability.

Do you still offer reproductive services?

At this time, we do not have a reproductive doctor on staff at this time. We can perform limited progesterone testing during our available hours.

How do I get a copy of my records sent to me?

Please email us at frontdesk@newbergvet.com and we will email you your records. Keep in mind the Petdesk app is available for you to quickly view vaccine history as well.

Where should I look for updated information on hours and services available?

Stay tuned to our website. We will keep it updated with information as things change.
